Here To The Other Side

I burrow myself in the wooden underbelly of a rejected raft
when I open my eyes the ocean splits apart to steal them
drag a memory out of shivering water / legs drenched in the ticks of a timer

I carry every minute in my arms through an aisle of currents
when I win this round the waves rage in red
my feet whittle a trench to an open hand
between my thumb and index finger I pinch a chance
a set of nails scrape off a layer of dirt from my head
fling my trust into a pair of eyes / my skin grabs a breath out of the sky

I pour all my daydreams in a bottle and let my name melt down to the letter
the flesh of a peach blushes when the walls of my mouth drip
summer hovers over me just to thrust warmth into my entire body
spy on my fist as it squeezes the heat right out of a sunbeam
daisies sink into the holes bullets left behind
grass smears life on my chest and calls it a journey
finally I can close my eyes under the blanket of an oak tree
