Talking With Theredspirit About His New Song Blue
Theredspirit is the solo project of Californian-born, Los Angeles based artist Joseph Bautista. He’s currently working on his sophomore album, and he recently released his new song Blue which you should check out below. On top of that, I wanted to ask him a few questions about his song writing, about one of his other songs, and more, so Enjoy!
What's your favorite song that you've written and why?
At the moment and since it’s been in my headspace lately, I have to say Blue. All I can really remember from writing this song was meditating in a little studio of a teacher’s. It was her idea and I thought it was so silly at the time. But wow, the words and ideas just came rushing from that. Since then, I’ve been way more open to all songwriting methods and ideas.
Where did the name Theredspirit come from?
To be honest I could not think of an artist name, and I really didn’t want to use my actual name. My Instagram handle was already Theredspirit. I don’t know if it’s lazy or genius but yeah, I just used my Instagram name haha. Where I got that Instagram name though was from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Specifically, a character called The Blue Spirit. The reason why my name wasn’t Thebluespirit is because it was already taken.
You wrote a song that is about living in the moment (I Live in The Moment Ft. Isen). Do you ever have trouble living in the moment yourself?
Oh yeah definitely, I feel like I’m always worrying about something or thinking about the past. Maybe more now about the future. But I like reminding myself not to look back as often or worry so much. It’ll just rob you of the present. I’ve learned to really be in the moment whenever I’m with family or friends. You know funny enough I Live in Moment was also made from meditating in a way. I remember being inspired by Buddhist temples, just being there felt so peaceful and tranquil.

Does writing music ever stress you? If so, why?
It’s more of a stress reliever for me. I think 80 percent of my songs were made from strife or sad times. Yeah, I don’t think I would have ever touched a guitar if I wasn’t sad. It does become a bit stressful when it comes to mixing and recording the written songs. And then the whole business spectrum side of it is like oh man. But writing the lyrics and figuring out the chords. Now that’s fun.
Any songs you've been loving lately and want to recommend?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Metallica and Justin Bieber lately. Seek and Destroy by Metallica is my number one right now and Come Around Me by Justin Bieber. It’s insane how much I’ve been putting these two songs on repeat haha. The production on both songs is on another level.
When can we expect more music from you?
I have no idea! I want to say late summer maybe if I can get the ball rolling on some of these ideas I have.Theredspirit’s social media:
