She Waits for Me to Catch My Breath

I feel my heart wringing itself out

Twisting and tangling veins

Not letting anything good or new flow through

Only sharp, deepening pains

I want my mind to slow down

So I put my palm on my head

I list my time in seconds

Blue surfaces from the red

My shoulders descend

My eyes open

& see my daughter in the rear view

I put the car in reverse

and get the car to finally move
