i nearly delete the audio memo
upon playback
i discover palpable melancholy
in my delivery, heaviness
resignation
that plaids against the stripes of delight
not quite my customer service voice
when it comes to you
joy is never artifice
it arrives on the blue arm of longing
invited, the one
received, the both
neither warmed by my hearth

for one is impervious
the other, incapable
of defrost or damming the dull
a reservoir of exhales
collects mirth mingled sighs
a contradiction to match
our predicament
